Surrendering a Horse

We know that surrendering a horse is a complicated and challenging decision. Like many horse rescues, we often run at full capacity, but if we are able, we want to help those who need to surrender an equine — or provide help if our rescue is at capacity.

Our first responsibility is to rehabilitate and care for the horses already here, then evaluate each surrender application based on available space and level of need. Read more below and click Apply to Surrender to begin the process.

Owner Surrender Process

Surrender Policies

All equine surrenders are final. You will no longer be responsible for the horse or be able to make any decision for its care. Our goal is to have every horse adopted or sponsored. This starts with the horse being evaluated by a veterinarian for soundness, having their teeth checked and floated as needed, and being screened for diseases and vaccinated. We will follow our veterinarians' advice on any end-of-life decisions.

Application and Fee

You must complete the Surrender Application linked above to begin the surrender process. If your application is accepted, there is a $350 fee for every horse surrendered. When we receive a horse, it is evaluated by a veterinarian, possibly radiographed, tested for diseases, and given vaccinations, along with any other medical care needed. All this takes time and resources, so we ask for this fee to help with those costs.

Transportation

We ask that owners provide transportation to the rescue. If that is not possible then we will assist with other options.
